Door Strike Connections

Akuvox Wiring Diagram for Door Strike, Postal Lock, and PoE – Complete Canada Setup Guide

Here we have a standard and common Akuvox intercom installation used in residential and commercial buildings across Canada, including Toronto, Montreal, Alberta and Vancouver.

In this setup, the Akuvox device is powered via PoE, connected directly to a PoE switch, which provides both power and internet connectivity through a single Ethernet cable. This simplifies the wiring process and reduces installation time.

The door strike is connected to Relay A on the Akuvox unit. This is a dry contact relay, which means the Akuvox device does not provide power to the strike itself. You must supply external power to the door strike according to its required voltage (typically 12V or 24V). This setup is crucial to ensure proper door unlocking functionality.

While some Akuvox models offer up to three relays for more advanced integrations (such as multiple doors or gate control), this diagram keeps it simple by showing a single-relay configuration.

You’ll also see that the postal lock is connected to the input port. This lock allows Canada Post delivery personnel to access the building without needing to be buzzed in, using a universal postal key. In this same input, you could alternatively connect a request-to-exit (REX) button, depending on your building’s access needs.
