Instead of reading a face or a fingerprint, it maps the vein pattern beneath the skin of the hand, a biometric that cannot be photographed, lifted from a surface, or reproduced from a video. Residents and employees hold a hand near the terminal and the door releases in under a second, with no card to lose and no PIN to share.
